The Wisconsin Department of Health Services is establishing a new Milwaukee office for over 200 employees under a lease agreement with CH Coakley.

CH Coakley announced that 56,000-square-foot lease on Monday. It is inside a larger industrial building at 6101 N. 64th St. that Coakley purchased in early 2021. The Milwaukee company won the seven-year lease for the DHS office through a public request for proposals process Wisconsin officials started last year.

“This location highlights the hybrid leasing concept our clients are looking for, and enables us to create spaces that are customized for each of our individual clients,” said company president Mike Coakley.

The new space opening in November will replace the current Department of Health Services office at 1220 W. Vliet St. in Milwaukee, according to information state officials released last year as part of its request for proposals.

Renovations for the future DHS space on 64th Street will involve lead contractor JP Cullen and designer Plunkett Raysich Architects.

Moving and third-party logistics company CH Coakley purchased the 64th Street building during a series of real estate deals in late 2020 and early 2021. The company sold its 470,000-square-foot building at 2153 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Milwaukee for the ThriveOn redevelopment that will create new offices, community space and apartments.

The 64th Street building, with 375,000 square feet, created replacement space for storage in the King Drive building. Coakley also purchased a building it had been leasing at 1400 S. 113th St. in Wauwatosa.

Coakley currently owns eight warehouses with about 2 million combined square feet.
